It is common knowledge that drug addiction poses a very serious problem to the individual and to the society in modern day communities of fast living. One major danger in this aspect is the mimicking of the unnatural ways of living of the so-called celebrity persons. People tend to copy of the lifestyles of such persons and invariably become addicts in one form or another. Hence, the difficulties in recovery from drug addiction have to be clearly understood for returning to a normal, healthy life.
The first step in recovery from drug addiction is to admit honestly to ourselves and to those who are close to us that we have a drug addiction problem. This is not easy but had to be done as a basic procedure in getting the necessary help for reversing the drug habit. This should be followed by a thorough introspection and analysis of the root causes or circumstances that led to the drug addiction. This phase is also a hard one and might require outside help or counseling either from other family members or friends or professional psychiatrists, depending on the severity of the addiction.
Once the causes and the extent of drug addiction had been identified, the road to recovery from drug addiction would have to be journeyed. There are innumerable rapid detox centers in every city that assist drug addicts from ridding of this harmful habit. The detox centers administer naltrexone for about 5 hours under anesthesia as the first step. The next 15 to 50 days are spent in combating the withdrawal symptoms from drug addiction.
This is the most critical period in recovery from drug addiction. The craving for the drug would be very acute and the mental and physical condition of the individual would be in a hyper-charged state. Many of them might throw violent tantrums, and suicidal or homicidal tendencies might also manifest. Hence, special care and counseling by expert doctors and nurses and other professional counselors like psychiatrists would be needed in this phase of recovery from drug addiction.
The final phase of recovery from drug addiction and total rehabilitation would normally be in the residence of the individual and this process would take months or years for returning to a life that is totally free of drugs. In this stage, it is very important to avoid the tendency to succumb to the old habit again. We have to clearly understand that the trap of drug addiction is quite alluring and is very hard to resist.
The only way to avoid the temptation is to have a total change in the mindset and thinking. If needed, old circles or acquaintances that initially led us in the path of drug addiction have to be meticulously shunned. For a reformed addict, the thought of the drugs might not go away but a firm resolve would definitely keep us out of the clutches of further drug addiction. However, when a person experiences the life without drugs, he/she would definitely find it most wonderful and beyond expectations. It is difficult to explain such a life in words but the recovery from drug addiction is definitely a very sweet one, even though the recovery process is strenuous.
