When such symptoms are noticed, the family members and friends should immediately find out the extent to which a person had become addicted. They have to gently counsel that person to undergo drug detox treatment and get him admitted to a rapid detox center. It would be difficult for a drug to honestly admit the addiction problem. However, it is very much necessary for the addict to do this for coming out of the fatal habit.
Once, the individual is admitted for rehabilitation, the rapid detox center would administer Naltrexone for about 5 hours under anesthesia to cleanse the body of the harmful drugs that are present. Then, the trained doctors, nurses, psychiatrists and professional counselors would help the patient cope up with the withdrawal symptoms from drug use. This process could take 15 to 50 days, depending on the physical and mental strength of the individual. After that, the individual has to undergo further rehabilitation at the residence for several months or years to completely get rid of the drug habit. The road to drug addiction is easy and fast, but the road to recovery is a long and arduous one.
Further, constant body cleansing methods have to be practiced to maintain a good health. Colon cleansing, sauna baths and steam rooms, and the intake of herbs are part of this cleansing program. Indulging in diversion activities like regular exercises, yoga & meditation, and developing the habit of new games like golf or whatever, are definitely helpful in keeping the mind of the rehabilitated person fully occupied. The old circle of drug addicts has to be meticulously avoided.
Family members and friends should keep a constant watch on the rehabilitating person and counsel with patience and love about the dangers in falling for drug habit again. It has to be clearly remembered that proper care and attention could work wonders in restoring a former drug addict to normal life.
Such a person would find the new life a wonderful experience. The old desire for the drug would not easily vanish but the newfound energy and mental peace would make the rehabilitated person understand that the life without drugs could actually be a very pleasant one.
The old adage goes, "Prevention is better than cure." A sustained campaign in the media enlisting the dangers of drug abuse is the need of the day to educate potential future drugs as also to reform present addicts.
The 'Say no to drugs' campaign in several countries is one good example. However, such campaigns have to be further increased and strengthened to create a strong and long-lasting impression in the minds of all human beings. An all-out effort by all the governments working together in eradicating the drug menace from the face of the globe is frantically needed, if the present and future generations have to lead a healthy life on earth. The cooperation of individuals is vital in this difficult task, since only a change in individual attitude could bring about a change in the society in any matter.
